Urban Indigenous Collective (UIC) is an urban Indigenous-led nonprofit organization working to empower Indigenous people in the greater Lenapehoking area, or so-called tri-state area. Our mission is to drive the inclusion of self-identified Urban Indigenous people living in Lenapehoking by indigenizing existing infrastructures and ensuring cultural humility in health and wellness services to build more equitable, inclusive, and prosperous communities.
We are hosting an online community health forum to observe the health needs of urban Indigenous people in NYC that are currently not being met. This forum will consist of focus groups for community members and health professionals alike. Some topics we will discuss include: mental health, Indigenous identity and cultural resurgence; health access/discrimination; language discrimination, loss and revitalization in relation to Indigenous health; gender and health, gender violence, reproductive justice and health; and more.
Sign up today to participate in the forum and shape what UIC does for years to come! The first 14 participants to sign up will receive $50 gift cards to Island School and Art Supply, and all others will receive $25 Visa gift cards with no activation steps.
*This forum is ONLY open to self-identifying Indigenous people who currently live in greater Lenapehoking or have community ties to this land. If you do not identify this way, please do not sign up for this forum. Find other ways to be in community with us through social media or at urbanindigenouscollective.org, including how to donate to our work.
*If you can't make it to these forums, we'd still love to hear about your experiences. Fill out our Community Survey at uic.city/community-survey to tell us all about your thoughts and experiences with health and health systems.
*ACCESSIBILITY: This forum will be hosted in English over the Zoom platform and will require using the Zoom application. We will be using Zoom's in-app live transcription to provide voice-to-text services.
